Standards & Technology Introduction

Standards and Technology are topics of crucial importance to STM publishers, especially in an online environment. STM serves its members by keeping close watch on international developments of new technology trends and emerging standards that support and improve the STM business landscape.

In the STM Future Lab Committee, the technology and product development directors of the most advanced STM member companies regularly meet and identify topics that deserve closer attention by STM publishers. Members are kept abreast of everything that is hot, new and relevant. New trends such as the social web, semantic search or video applications and mobile services will find their way to STM events, to the annual Innovations Seminar (December, after London Online), into the newsletter and into white papers.

In the area of standards, STM participates in several international forums to ensure that STM interests are duly represented. Standards of relevance for STM publishers include everything happening around identifiers on the web such as ISTC, ISNI, ACAP, and linking standards such as DOI, but also messaging standards for EDI-services like ONIX as well as the connected suite of rights expressions. For contact and more information: Eefke Smit, STM Director, Standards and Technology, email: eefke.smit@xs4all.nl
