About the Speakers

Brian Bishop

An STM professional for seven years, Brian is currently responsible for the development and launch of new electronic products at Springer, the most recent of which is the free analytic tool called AuthorMapper (authormapper.com), and Springer Protocols (springerprotocols.com). Brian has held various positions within Springer including Marketing Special Projects Manager and Product Manager for online platforms. His previous role at Kluwer Academic Publishers involved online product development and Brian launched the first STM custom eBook platform in 2001 with 450 titles.

 

Richard Charkin

Richard Charkin is a Director of Bloomsbury Publishing Plc group (http://www.bloomsbury.com/ and http://www.berlinverlage.de/) whose authors include J.K.Rowling, Khaled Hosseini, Jonathan Littell, Ingo Schulz, John Irving, William Boyd and many others. Eileen Dolan

Eileen Dolan is the Director of Market Development for Wiley-Blackwell, focusing on new markets and analyzing business opportunities for Wiley-Blackwell journals, books and services.  

 

Previously at Wiley, Eileen served as the Director of Sales, Asia Pacific,  for Wiley InterScience, based in Singapore, and as  Director of  Wiley InterScience Development. Wiley InterScience is an online content service that delivers scientific, technical, medical and professional information to users worldwide. 

 

Eileen has an MBA from New York University and a B.S. Biology  from the Pennsylvania State University.

Ruth Jones

Ruth Jones is Director of Publisher Business Development for Ingram Digital in EMEA.  She joined Ingram Digital from the British Library where she was Head of Product Development, responsible for the development of information products and services. Prior to that, Ruth was General Manager of Extenza e-Publishing. Ruth was Sales and Marketing Director for Thomson Learning EMEA for four years and has extensive sales, marketing and editorial experience gained predominantly in the academic and business education markets.

 

Daniel Pollock

Daniel has worked in the STM publishing industry since 1992. A software engineer by background, he joined Elsevier in 2001 and moved into publishing roles, leading the delivery and strategic planning of a variety of electronic initiatives, which included online reference tools, mobile applications, clinical decision support and medical ontologies. Daniel joined Outsell in 2007, where he is responsible for analytic coverage, thought leadership and executive advisory services focused on the STM information sector. He serves as a consultant to clients on issues such as digital publishing best practices, open access, search technologies, journal and book publishing, information standards, and STM market dynamics.

 

Kate Price

Kate Price has been E-Strategy & Resources Manager at the University Library, University of Surrey, since November 2003. She is responsible for the team that acquires and catalogues information resources in electronic, print and audio-visual formats. A major part of her role is to direct the development of the electronic provision of information for the university, in terms of both content and modes of delivery. She has been involved with major projects including the setting up of an open access repository (Surrey Scholarship Online), and has overseen a significant shift towards electronic formats, including e-journals and e-books. Kate is a member of the National Committee of the UK Serials Group.

 

Michael Taylor

Mike has worked in publishing technology for over twenty years and is at his happiest with technology that threatens the status quo. He has worked with small and independent publishers and has spent the last decade working in product development at Elsevier Science and Technology books. Most recently, he has joined the Elsevier Labs research and development group.

 

Jill Taylor-Roe

Jill Taylor-Roe is currently Head of Liaison, Academic Services and Special Collections at Newcastle University where she leads an experienced team of Liaison Librarians.

She also manages the Library's resources budget and determines how best to deploy it to support the teaching, learning and research needs of the University. Her current interests and projects include contributing to the development of the University's Engagement Strategy, with particular emphasis on working with schools, and promoting library resources and services more effectively to the academic community. Jill has been actively involved in the work of the UKSG for many years and is also a Member of the JISC National E-Books Observatory Project Board and the JISC E-Books Working Group.

 

Roel Tilly

Roel Tilly has been working at the Library of the University of Maastricht from the beginning in 1974.

Currently he holds the position of Contract manager and Senior Policy advisor.

Previously he has been working for UKB, the Dutch Consortium for University Libraries, as a Senior Policy Advisor especially in the field of Consortia matters and as Acquisitions Librarian

 

Caroline Wain

Caroline Wain has worked in STM journals and book publishing since 2003 and has been involved in numerous multi-format publishing projects.  Since joining the RSC in 2006 she has been responsible for bringing the RSC Books program online and developing the future strategies in content commissioning, delivery and sale.
